We head to the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, where Scott's Sharks host Coriene's Anaheim Ducks. The Sharks are heavilly-favored to win, having won the Presidents' Trophy by a landslide. Joe Thornton and Rick Nash are leading this team's offensive-charge (15 and 16 goals, respectively), while Evgeni "The Iron Man" Nabokov is holding-down the fort on defense. The Ducks looked like they would go-down early, but have suprised all by clawing their way back from a 0-3 deficit to force game seven. This team has SEVERAL players who are scoring, including three with goal totals in the 'teens (Andy McDonald, Todd Bertuzzi, and Teemu Selanne). The winner of this one, takes-on St.Louis (Joel) in the Western Conference Finals. Let's go!
It took just 51 seconds for this one to get-going, as Ryan Getzlaf would emerge from behind the San Jose net to find Todd Bertuzzi for a quick one-time-goal. Not even a full minute later, Andy McDonald would win a defensive-zone faceoff, and carry it from end-to-end to score on the powerplay. But San Jose was not to be counted-out yet, as Rick Nash would find Patrick Marleau in the slot for the Sharks' first goal. And just before the period's end, Joe Sakic would net another for the Sharks. And that brings us to the end of the first, with the score tied at two-a-piece.
The Ducks would strike early again in the 2nd period, as Teemu Selanne would blow-one-by Nabokov. Things were quiet for the next nine minutes or so, until Corey Perry would also light-the-lamp for the Ducks. But San Jose would use their big-guns once again, and Joe Thornton would deliver on the powerplay. The 2nd period would end, with the Ducks leading the Sharks four to three.
A flurry of San Jose penalties in the closing minutes of the 2nd, would put Anaheim on a 5-on-3 powerplay, but the San Jose penalty kill would persevere. But, a fourth-straight San Jose penalty would open a door for Corey Perry to score (his 2nd of the night) on the powerplay. As the third is turning-out to be a period of "seconds" for people, Teemu Selanne would also oblige with his 2nd of the night. And that's how we'd finish, as the Ducks would defeat the Sharks by a final score of 7 to 3. Anaheim completes its 4-game comeback for the victory, and sends the Presidents' Trophy winners back home.
