We head to Scotiabank Place in Cnada, Ontario, Canada, where Rick’s Ottawa Senators host Zak’s Buffalo Sabres. Despite a 3 and 3 start, Zak’s Sabres have rebounded to a 10-5-1 record. However, Rick’s Senators are a tough crowd to beat, as he puts his impressive 15-1-0 record on the line in this exciting divisional matchup. Let’s go!
The teams traded some penalties back-and-forth for a good part of the first. Ottawa would finally take advantage of that, as Sergei Fedorov would light-the-lamp for the Sens’ Powerplay. A few minutes later, Daniel Alfredsson (who had setup Fedorov’s goal) also scored on the Powerplay to put the Senators up by two. A short while later, Alfredsson would score again on even-strength, to widen the gap farther. And that’s how we’d end the first. Ottawa leads Buffalo by a score of 3 to 0.
Buffalo started the 2nd with a HUGE 5-on-3 Powerplay, thanks to 3 Ottawa minor penalties at the very end of the 1st. Finally, Maxim Affinogenov would put Buffalo on-the-board with a Powerplay goal. Things were quiet until half-way through the period, when the Ottawa Powerplay would strike again, this time Rod Brind’Amour getting the goal. Illya Kovalchuk would get an even-strength marker to put the Sens’ up by even more. The 2nd period would end, with Ottawa leading Buffalo by a score of 5 to 1.
Mike Fisher would start-out the 3rd period with a[nother] Powerplay goal for Ottawa. Marian Hossa and Affinogenov would each score within seconds to bring Buffalo back within 3. But a few minute later, Dany Heatley would score to add a little more insurance for the Sens’. Jason Pomonville would score in the closing seconds, but it wouldn’t matter, as the Senators would defeat the Sabres by a final score…scratch that…Sergei Fedorov would also score in the final seconds (f#&!ng EA)…and the Senators would win by a final score of 8 to 4.
