Live, from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, we're bringing you Joel's St.Louis Blues at Scott's San Jose Sharks. Scott has had an impressive run (37-7-0-3), only losing 8 games so far, but Joel has been hot lately (31-12-0-5) and is looking to impress. Let's go!
Each team traded a penalty or two back-and-forth for the 1st half of the period, with neither Martin Brodeur or Evgeni Nabakov giving-in. Finally, just after a Phillippe Boucher penalty, Patrick Marleau would set-up Jonathan Cheechoo for the 1st goal of the game. Three minutes later, Marleau would catch a lucky break and deke Brodeur for a goal of his own. A few more St. Louis penalties would equal the Sharks powerplay coming-up empty, and that's how we'd end the first period with a score of two to nothing.
The 2nd period would be a hard-fought defensive battle, and the referee gave his whistle a break (for the most-part). Things were quiet until Daniel Sedin caught a loose puck in-front of Nabokov, and burned it by him for the 1st St.Louis goal. And that's how the second would end, with San Jose leading St.Louis by a score of two to one.
Joe Sakic would score an early Powerplay goal for San Jose, to return them to their 2-goal lead. Things would stay that way until midway throught the period, when Doug Weight would score for the St.Louis Powerplay to narrow the gap. St.Louis would have the momentum in their favor, after Brodeur stoned Cheechoo on a penalty shot. With 1 minute to go, they'd get a stroke of luck when Joe Sakic was called for a penalty. They pulled Brodeur for the remainder to get the 6-on-4 advantage, but only paved the way for Joe Thornton to seal-the-deal with an empty-net-short-hander. And that's how the game would end. San Jose defeats St.Louis by a final score of four to two.
