Today we head to the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, where Adam's Blackhawks are looking to stick a sizeable tollway charge to Coriene's Anaheim Ducks. Adam's 'Hawks might be only 3rd in the Central Division, but he as a strong lead over Nashville in the playoff standings, and is prettymuch guaranteed a playoff spot. Coriene's Ducks (on the other hand) have a difinitive lead over Detroit and Colorado, and have all but secured a top-seed in the Western Conference bracket. Each team here is looking to suck some momentum out of the other, just-in-case they happen to face each other come playoff time. Here we go!
The first half of the 1st period was a hard-fought defensive battle, with a flurry of penalties (including 3-straight on Anaheim). But Jason Williams would put the Blackhawks on the board, with an even-strength burn of Jean-Sebastian Giguere. Four minutes later the Hawks would mount another assault, and this time Tuomo Ruutu would find the net to extend Chicago's lead to two goals. But they wouldn't stop there, as Nikita Alexeev would net his 3rd goal of the season. And that's how the 1st period would end, Chicago leads Anaheim by a score of three to nothing.
Much of the 2nd period was quiet, save for the 5th and 6th-consecutive minor penalties called on Anaheim. The only thing as remarkable, being Chicago's 0-for-6 on the powerplay during that stretch, including giving-up several short-handed chances. But, they maintain the pressure and the lead, as they close the 2nd period up three to nothing over the Ducks.
Again, some more penalties were assessed to Anahiem. But, the odds won-out this time, as Petr Bondra puts-home a powerplay goal for Chicago. That would make Chicago 1 for 9 on the powerplay, until Rene Borque drove-home a blaster from the blue line (powerplay goal) with 0.4 seconds remaining. And thus, Anaheim would never get anything going, and Chicago would conclude this five-to-nothing horse-whipping of the Ducks. Good night, folks.
