Zak vs. Amy In Pivotal Second Round Matchup

Marco Sturm (16) celebrates after scoring a 3rd period goal.

Here we go to the Scott Trade Center in St.Louis, Missouri for this 2nd-round matchup between Zak's St.Louis Blues and Amy's Detroit Red Wings. After barely scraping her way into the playoffs, and then disposing of San Jose, Amy is one game away from advancing to the Final Four. Zak finished as the Central Division Champ, but had a harder time than expected in defeating Los Angeles. The winner of this game advances to the 3rd round. Let's go!

Michael Nylander (92) notches the 1st goal of the night. Unfortunately, this would be Washinton's only lead.

Daniel Briere got things going early, with a quick goal for St.Louis. The 'Wings would answer back a few minutes later, as Kris Draper would score one on the powerplay. But towards the end of the period, the lead would change-hands again, as Keith Tkachuk would score two goals in 1 minute for the Blues. Paul Kariya would notch another for the Blues. Juri Hudler would score for Detroit, to keep them in it. But Marty Rucinsky would add another goal to put St.Louis up a whopping five to two at the end of the 1st period.

Vaclav Prospal (20) blasts this one through traffic to tie the game in the 1st period.

Daniel Briere would start-off this period with another goal for St.Louis. He would score again later in the period to cap-off his hattrick. Henrik Zetterberg would score for Detroit, but they'd need a WHOLE LOT MORE than just his to make a difference. We end the 2nd period, with St.Louis leading sDetroiteven to three.

Rob DiMaio (18) puts a shorthanded-goal on-the-board for Tampa.

Things would go any easier for the Red Wings in the 3rd, as Vladimir Orszagh would add a goal early-on. Glen Metropolit would add yet another goal for St.Louis, who did not slow their attack whatsoever. And that's how we'd finish-out. St.Louis win the series in grandesque-style, by a final Game #7 score of nine to three.

Mike Cammalleri (13) scores his 1st of the night.
